You may have seen in the news discussions about Iceland’s advertisement of no palm oil, the extinction rebellion climate change protests and Greta Thunberg’s meeting with MPs. St Martin’s may be a small school but we recognise our part in the national and global community. Learning is far more powerful when it has a real purpose and we should empower our children to take real and positive actions about things they care about. One such action is to speak to those who are in positions of power, to make their voices heard and challenge thinking in a similar way to Greta Thunberg. As part of Earth Day this year, our children were considering environmental issues objectively and formed a range of challenging questions to put to our local MP, Dr Offord. It was wonderful to see the children of our small school playing their part in raising issues for the wider community.
